Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Altar Building In-Person
The Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos), is a Mexican tradition where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. It is tradition to create ofrendas, the Spanish word for offerings, to be set up on an altar.
The IEC is teaming up with the AC Latino Club and the Students' Association to build an altar to commemorate el Día de los Muertos. All students are invited to visit the altar, learn more about this tradition and to contribute their ofrendas to remember people in their lives who have passed away.
These ofrendas could include:
- Photos of your friends and family who have passed away
- Candles and incense
- Water
- Cempasúchil, or marigolds
- Sweets
- Your loved ones' favorite foods
- Decorations, such as skulls and tissue paper flowers
You may stop by The Hub (Student Commons 2nd floor), anytime between 10:00 am and 5:00pm to visit and add to the altar.
Then, join us at 5:00 pm for a screening of the Disney Pixar movie Coco in the Corner Lounge.
